Transgressive behaviour in the workplace
Consultants Grensoverschrijdend gedrag
For more than 60 years, Hoffmann has been investigating fraud and inappropriate behaviour. Our investigators are involved in dozens of investigations every year, from straightforward incidents of theft to complex investigations involving corruption, intimidation, discrimination and fraud, for example, but also investigations into reports of inappropriate and (sexually) transgressive behaviour. For several years now, Hoffmann has been seeing a sharp increase in the number of investigations into reports of inappropriate and (sexually) transgressive behaviour in the workplace, in all their guises.

Distinctive approach
As a result of this growing phenomenon, Hoffmann has in recent years designed and further developed an investigation methodology specifically for investigations into inappropriate behaviour. While organisations are often the injured party in regular investigations into fraud, in investigations into transgressive behaviour, it is always individuals who are the victims. Our investigation methodology for inappropriate behaviour therefore focuses on both people and the organisation. The interests of all the parties involved (those reporting, the accused and the organisation) are central, and our plan of action therefore aims to ensure that all parties feel confident that their interests will be properly taken into account. At the core remains the fact that our investigations are about getting to the truth. Is the report true? What exactly happened, and how is this evidenced? With what intention did the conduct take place, and how was it perceived by the reporting party and the organisation?
Procedure based on inappropriate behaviour protocol
Hoffmann distinguishes itself in the market by using behavioural scientists when conducting investigations into undesirable behaviour. The combination of a seasoned investigator with a behavioural scientist is unique in our industry.
Our Team of Behavioral Scientists
The investigations are conducted on the basis of a specially developed protocol and are as transparent as possible when they can be, while also maintaining the trust or interests of individuals. The handling of a report does not always benefit from the full transparency that is so often desired.
In both fraud investigations and investigations into inappropriate behaviour, Hoffmann provides a clear report in which we relate the findings to the facts.
Organisations often have a preference beforehand to minimise the resulting impact after a report of transgressive behaviour. The natural inclination to speak to the accused themselves, or under supervision, is often in stark contrast to what happens in practice. In many instances, doing this is not always advisable or prudent. Sometimes, the impact surrounding the report is already such that it is necessary to conduct a fact-finding investigation in order to take measures or, after discussions with the reporting party and the accused, it remains unclear what exactly took place. Further investigation is then still necessary.
